  1. British Nationals underway with 4 tasks completed already by Sunday lunchtime.
Pascal Vallee of France wins Task 1, a Navigation (Precision and Speed) in turbulent conditions Saturday morning.
Task 2, a 'bowling landing', knocking over 5 pins, was won by Bryan Rooke who hit all 5.
Task 3 was a Japanese slalom with some superbly fast circuits especially from our French visitors.
Numerous pilots hit the spot to score maximum on Task 4, the precision landing.

  2. We have a superb site near the Malvern Hills south of Worcester, with big open fields and mown grass. Kite buggy lawns next door. Views of the Malverns. Great campsite. Could be our best competition site yet. The French love it after the rocky terrain around Puyssergier where they held their own Nats a few weeks ago.

  3. Task 5 is about to run, rain permitting. This is a Speed Triangle + Out & Return, testing speed and economy while flying straight lines. 40km triangle runs from our base at Kerswell Green up to Oddingley, then out east to Abbots Morton, and back to base. The Out & Return line runs south past Gloucester for those who can get that far economically. 2-hour time cap on the whole task.

  4. Task 5 ran successfully. On Sunday evening we chilled out.
Up 06:00 Monday morning for briefing on Curved Navigation Task. Pilots have to follow a squiggly line on the map, 75km long. Lots of hidden gates on the way: you don't know how many or where they are, so you need to stay on that line all the way. There's a speed element to the scoring, but if you don't cross all the gates you won't get any score for speed, so precision navigation is of utmost importance. There's a drizzly cloudbase hanging around 600ft which makes visibility difficult. Most pilots come back a bit wet, but the task gets done.

  7. We've reached Tuesday morning with 9 Tasks completed. The weather has favoured us: cloudy with a bit of drizzle but generally light winds. On Monday evening we ran a 3-component Precision task (Tasks 7, 8 & 9), consisting of another Japanese slalom, followed by jumping fences and kicking balls, rounded off with a Bowling Landing (kicking 5 skittles to land without falling over).

  8. Monday afternoon saw a Pure Economy Task. Moderate thermic activity was forecast. There was some lift around, but things began to close down in the mid-afternoon and many pilots landed shortly after their minimum allowed time of 1 hour in the air. A few flew the whole 2 hours. Results yet to be announced.

  15. What a fantastic weekend. First comp for me so took a few tasks to settle in to it. An amazing venue, perfect for purpose.

Thanks to everyone for making the weekend so friendly and fun. Special thanks to Piers Dent my mentor, also to Andy P for all the hard work and organising, to all the marshals and helpers who spent long days recording all our activities, cooking food, collecting and delivering information, without which the competition couldn't function.

    Regards

    Richard Whitmarsh

  16. My wife and I drove four hours to get to the competition from West Wales. As a fellow (low hours) paramotor pilot and as a spectator I was keen to see the technique of top pilots and I was greatly encouraged.

I bought some raffle tickets on the day and was extremely surprised and pleased when a few days later I was informed that two of my tickets had come up. A dvd and windsock arrived in the post today and they are fantastic prizes to win.

So I would like to say thank you to the organisers for sending them on to me and although we could only be there on the one day we thoroughly enjoyed it.
    Congratulations to Michel Carnet.
    Kind regards Tony Price, Pembrokeshire.
